The City of Carlsbad, CA – Catalog for MyCodingClasses features a specialized curriculum designed to introduce children to the world of computer science through hands-on, interactive learning. These sessions are held at key community hubs, such as the Pine Avenue Community Center.
For the upcoming Summer 2026 season, the catalog highlights several intensive and creative programs:
Roblox Game Development: A popular camp where students move from being players to creators. They learn to use Roblox Studio and the Lua programming language to design custom 3D worlds, script game mechanics, and publish their own games.
Minecraft Modding & Engineering: This program uses the familiar world of Minecraft to teach Java-based logic and electrical engineering concepts (Redstone). Students build complex automated systems and custom “mods” for their gameplay.
Python for Beginners: Designed for older youth, this course introduces one of the world’s most versatile programming languages. Projects focus on automation, basic game design, and understanding data structures.
Junior Scratch & Creative Coding: Tailored for younger children, these sessions use visual block-based coding to help kids create animated stories and simple arcade-style games while developing foundational logic skills.
Format: Most programs are offered as week-long half-day camps (Morning sessions: 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. or Afternoon sessions: 1 p.m. – 4 p.m.).
Equipment: All necessary technology, including laptops and software licenses, is typically provided on-site.
Skill Levels: Classes are tiered for “Newbies” (no experience) through “Advanced” (for returning students looking to deepen their portfolio).
Registration is managed through the Carlsbad Connect portal. Because these STEM programs often have limited capacity to ensure a high instructor-to-student ratio, early registration is recommended.
